How it works

Every second of simulated time the facility's power balance is solved instantaneously — this is a simplified microgrid energy-balance (unit-commitment) model, the same principle utilities use to size behind-the-meter renewables:

P_solar(t) = C_solar · max(0, sin(π·f_day)) · (1 − cloud)
P_wind(t)  = C_wind · clamp((v/v_rated)^3, 0, 1)
P_gen(t)   = P_solar(t) + P_wind(t)
ΔE_batt    = clamp(P_gen − P_load, −P_max) · dt
P_grid(t)  = max(0, P_load − P_gen − dischargeable)

Solar output follows the sun's elevation across the day (a sine profile of the daylight fraction f_day, dimmed by passing cloud), while wind output follows the cubic wind-power law up to the turbine's rated speed. Any surplus charges the battery; any shortfall is met first by discharging the battery, and only once the battery is empty does the facility draw from the grid. This is exactly the "on-site variable renewable energy" (VRE) strategy climate-resilient supply chains use to decarbonize a factory or warehouse's own electricity draw before touching green procurement of the residual grid power.
