Earth Energy Balance Diagram (2D Single-Layer Grey-Atmosphere Model)

This 2D companion to the 3D Earth Energy Balance simulation keeps the same real-world subject — Earth's radiative equilibrium and the greenhouse effect — but computes it with a genuinely different mechanic. Instead of integrating a heat-capacity ODE forward through simulated years with an additive CO₂ forcing term and an ice-albedo hysteresis loop, this model solves the classic single-layer grey-atmosphere energy balance algebraically, instantly, every frame: incoming solar S(1−α)/4 must equal outgoing longwave σTs⁴(1−ε/2) at the top of the atmosphere, with the atmosphere's own emissivity ε set by the greenhouse-gas slider. Move the albedo, greenhouse-gas or solar-constant sliders and watch the equilibrium surface temperature, atmosphere temperature and every energy-flow arrow — sized to the real computed flux in W/m² — update immediately to the new steady state.
