How it works

The scorecard version allocates points as abstract sliders; here the same LEED-style category pools are filled by concrete building-envelope choices instead. Glazing layers and wall insulation drive heat-loss (and most of the Energy pool), solar panels add renewable-energy points, low-flow fixtures fill the Water pool, and recycled/local materials fill the Materials pool. The particle stream through the walls and windows is the physical readout of Energy performance — thicker, faster streams mean a leakier envelope and a lower score.

Glazing — single/double/triple panes; each added layer roughly halves conductive loss through the windows.
Wall insulation — thicker insulation lowers the wall's U-value, visibly thinning the heat-flow particle stream.
Solar panels — toggling the roof array adds an Energy-category bonus for on-site renewable generation.
Low-flow fixtures / recycled materials — fill the Water and Materials point pools independently of the envelope's thermal performance.

Real-world relevance: this is why LEED energy modelling weighs envelope construction so heavily — the glazing and insulation choices made at design time set a heat-loss baseline that no amount of later operational tuning can fully undo.
