Diels-Alder Cycloaddition: [4+2] Reaction Coordinate

This simulator renders a real 3D reaction coordinate for the Diels-Alder [4+2] cycloaddition: a diene and a dienophile approach, pass through a single concerted transition state, and fuse into a cyclohexene ring as two new σ bonds form together. Scrub or play the progress slider to watch bond lengths and the potential-energy curve evolve, switch the dienophile to an electron-poor acrylonitrile to see the activation energy drop, toggle endo vs exo approach to see Alder's endo rule in action, and adjust temperature to watch the Arrhenius rate constant respond live.
