Magnetic Sector Mass Spectrometer

This simulator models a real 180° magnetic-sector mass analyzer: ions are accelerated through a tunable voltage, injected into a uniform magnetic field between two pole faces, and bent onto a circular path whose radius r = mv/(qB) depends on their mass-to-charge ratio. Only ions whose radius matches the fixed detector-slit radius are transmitted, exactly as in the Dempster and Nier instruments that established this technique. Adjust the accelerating voltage and magnetic field to bring each species in the source mixture into focus, toggle which ions the source emits, and run an automatic field scan to build up a real mass spectrum peak by peak at the detector.
