⚗️ Combustion Process Simulation
Observe the chemical reaction between fuel and oxygen, which leads to heat release and formation of combustion products.
🔬 Combustion Chemistry
1. Preparation of reagents
Fuel (carbon-based) and oxygen (O₂) are preparing for reaction. Proper fuel-to-oxygen ratio (stoichiometric mixture) is required for combustion.
2. Activation of reaction
For reaction initiation, activation energy is required (ignition). This can be a spark, flame, or high temperature. After activation, the reaction proceeds independently.
3. Fuel oxidation
Carbohydrates are oxidized by oxygen, producing carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water (H₂O). A large amount of thermal energy is released in the process.
4. Reaction products
Primary combustion products: CO₂, H₂O and heat. In incomplete combustion, CO, soot, and other harmful substances may form.
⚡ Types of Combustion
Full combustion
With sufficient oxygen, carbon compounds are completely oxidized to CO₂ and H₂O. This is the most efficient type of combustion with maximum energy release and minimal harmful emissions.
Incomplete Combustion
With insufficient oxygen, CO, soot, and other harmful substances form. This is less efficient and pollutes the environment.
Detonation
Quick chemical reaction with shock wave formation. Occurs at high temperatures and pressures, characteristic of internal combustion engines.
FLUXES
Slow combustion without glow at low temperatures. Characteristic for wood, coal, and other solid fuels.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
The color of the glow depends on the temperature and chemical composition of the fuel. A blue color indicates high temperature and complete combustion, yellow shows the presence of soot, green points to the presence of copper or boron.
Flash temperature is the lowest temperature at which water vaporizes enough to form a flammable mixture with air. At this temperature, a flame can ignite the vapor, but burning does not continue.
Catalytic neutralizer contains catalysts (platinum, rhodium, palladium) that accelerate the transformation of harmful gases (CO, NOx) into safe substances (CO₂, N₂, H₂O) at temperatures 300-800°C.
Water extinguishes fire due to high heat capacity - it absorbs a large amount of heat during heating and evaporation, reducing temperature to below the fuel's flash point level.
Energy value (combustion heat) is the amount of energy released during complete combustion of one unit of fuel mass. Measured in MJ/kg or kcal/kg. Highest in wood (142 MJ/kg), lowest in coal (15 MJ/kg).
