Gel Electrophoresis — 3D Migration Companion
This is a genuine Three.js/WebGL companion to the 2D Gel Electrophoresis simulator. It reproduces the exact same migration model — a ladder lane of known fragment sizes plus one or two sample lanes, all loaded into wells at the top of a real 3D gel slab and pulled toward the anode by an electric field — but renders it as an orbitable 3D volume with a cathode plate, anode plate, field-flow streaks and true spherical band markers instead of a flat canvas.
The underlying math is identical to the original: migration fraction follows frac = clamp(K·V / (gel·size^n) · t/60, 0, 1) with n = 0.35 + 0.25·gel, K = 0.18, and the same 1.6 sim-minutes-per-real-second playback rate. Band diffusion spread still grows with √t, now visualized as the 3D sphere's radius growing in every axis. The ladder calibration panel — plotting log(size) against log(distance) to size an unknown sample — is rendered live onto a canvas-texture plane that sits inside the same 3D scene and always faces the camera, using the exact same log-log calibration and inverse-estimate formulas as the 2D version.
Drag to orbit the gel slab and calibration panel, scroll or pinch to zoom, adjust voltage, gel concentration and sample preset, and press Play to watch fragments separate by size in real 3D space.
