Disinfection Byproduct Formation 2D: Drinking Water Chlorination

Chlorinating drinking water does more than kill pathogens — it also reacts with the dissolved organic matter naturally present in raw water to form trihalomethanes (THMs), a regulated disinfection byproduct. This 2D simulator models a treatment reactor as a pannable top-down particle tank plus a live scrolling concentration chart: adjust the chlorine dose, DOC concentration, bromide level, water temperature and clock speed and watch the free-chlorine residual decay, DOC precursor particles convert into THM particles, and the CT disinfection credit accumulate — with a live readout of total THMs against the EPA's 80 µg/L regulatory limit.
