Lithium Brine Evaporation Solar pond cascade — 2D cross-section

Brine flows left to right through five ponds. Solar evaporation removes water and concentrates the dissolved salts; sodium chloride precipitates first (white crust), then magnesium salts, leaving lithium chloride concentrated in the final pond for harvest. Pumping moves brine to the next pond once it evaporates down; rain dilutes every pond.
