Reactant A Reactant B Product C Catalyst site

2D Catalyst & Reaction Rate

A catalyst does not change how favourable a reaction is — it changes how fast the reaction gets there, by opening a lower-energy pathway between reactants and products. This 2D canvas simulator runs two identical reaction chambers side by side: reactant molecules A and B bounce around and occasionally collide with enough energy to react into product C, but the right-hand chamber has catalyst sites embedded in it that lower the activation energy Eₐ any nearby collision has to clear. Adjust the temperature to change how energetic the collisions are, and adjust catalyst loading to change how much of the chamber's barrier gets lowered, while a live energy-profile diagram and per-second reaction-rate readout show exactly how much faster the catalyzed chamber reaches equilibrium.
