Bioreactor Scale-Down Model Qualification

Upstream process development lives or dies on whether a small bench-scale bioreactor genuinely represents the production vessel a biologic will ultimately be manufactured in. This 2D simulator models that "scale-down qualification" exercise directly: two schematic stirred-tank bioreactors — a 1–20 L bench vessel and a fixed 2000 L production vessel — each with an animated Rushton-turbine impeller and rising aeration bubbles, plus live kLa-vs-RPM curves, driven by the same van't Riet mass-transfer correlation real process engineers use to estimate the volumetric oxygen mass-transfer coefficient kLa from impeller power per volume and superficial gas velocity. Adjust the bench reactor's working volume, impeller speed and aeration rate, then either hand-tune or auto-match the production impeller speed until the two kLa values converge, watching the live mismatch readout and curve crossing confirm whether the scale-down model would pass qualification.
