Each consumer-facing jar gets its own 13-digit GTIN (printed as an EAN-13 barcode); the outer trade case that holds several jars gets a separate 14-digit GTIN (GTIN-14, often printed as an ITF-14 barcode) so wholesalers and retailers can order, receive and bill in whole cases without confusing a case for a single jar.
