🐝 The Demaree Method

An exploded-view 3D beehive that steps through the Demaree vertical split box by box — the original brood box, the fresh box the queen is confined into, the queen excluder and the honey supers all animate into their new positions as you scrub through five manipulation stages.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

How confining the queen below an excluder on empty comb, while lifting all existing brood above it, breaks up the crowding and pheromone cues that trigger swarming — without splitting the colony into two hives.

🎮 How to Use

Drag the step slider from Stage 0 through Stage 4 to watch supers get removed, a new box added, the queen relocated and the hive reassembled. Scrub the days slider to see brood hatch out and fresh eggs appear, and pull the exploded-spacing slider to 0 to see the finished, reassembled hive.

💡 Did You Know?

George Demaree's 1892 method remains one of the few swarm-control techniques that keeps a colony's entire adult workforce together in one hive while still resetting its swarm impulse.
