How it works

Jar mass is not looked up — it comes from real cylinder-shell geometry (outer radius r = 4.2 cm, body height h = 12 cm, wall thickness t from the slider) times the material's density:

V = π·h·(r² − (r−t)²) + π·r²·t   [shell + base disk]
mass = V · density(material)

Embodied carbon per unit interpolates linearly between each material's virgin and fully-recycled cradle-to-gate emission factor (kg CO2e/kg) by the recycled-content slider, then adds label and box embodied carbon (each material's areal mass × its own emission factor). Shipping carbon scales with the actual computed total mass of jar + label + box + honey, a road-freight factor (0.09 kg CO2e per tonne-km), and the distance slider — so a heavier glass jar genuinely costs more to ship than a light PET one, exactly as in a real logistics calculation.

Recyclability — a weighted blend of each material's typical real-world kerbside recycling rate (glass ≈95%, PET ≈29%, PLA ≈5%, industrial composting only) plus label/box contamination or credit.
Production run — the production-rate slider sets units/week; cumulative CO2e integrates rate × unit-CO2e over simulated time (accelerated ~180× real time), so cumulative impact is a genuine running integral, not a static multiply.
