Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control: Platoon String Stability

Six autonomous vehicles follow a human-piloted leader down a highway, each running the same constant-time-gap control law but reacting to the world through different channels. Switch between radar-only Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), where every vehicle can only sense the car directly ahead through its own delayed sensors, and V2V-connected Cooperative ACC (CACC), where the leader's braking command is broadcast instantly to the whole string. Trigger a brake pulse from the leader and watch whether the disturbance dies out by the sixth car or amplifies into a rear-end collision risk — the same string-stability problem that determines how tightly real autonomous truck platoons and adaptive-cruise traffic can safely space themselves.
