UK beekeepers face three distinct risk categories: a visitor or member of the public being stung or injured near the hives (public liability), a customer reacting badly to jarred honey or another hive product (product liability), and hive boxes, suits or a smoker being damaged, stolen or destroyed (equipment cover). Many BBKA-affiliated beekeepers get basic public and product liability bundled through association membership, but larger apiaries, market stalls and higher-value equipment often need extra cover.
The British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) offers members third-party liability cover as part of its membership package, but it typically does not cover your own equipment losses or every type of product claim — which is why many beekeepers who sell honey commercially or run larger apiaries add standalone policies.
An interactive apiary protected by three translucent coverage domes — public liability, product liability and equipment cover — where simulated claims either get absorbed by an active policy or fall through as an uncovered loss.
Each coverage layer only protects its own zone: visitors near the hives, honey sold at the stall, or the equipment shed. Turning a toggle off leaves that zone exposed, and claims that reach the ground become real out-of-pocket losses.
Set apiary size and coverage limit, switch the three liability layers on or off, and trigger claim events to watch them get absorbed (green burst) or turn into losses (red burst) at the bottom of the counters.
BBKA membership bundles some public and product liability cover, but equipment, theft and higher-value commercial honey sales often need a standalone policy on top.
