Ant Colony Pheromone Trails

Ants wander a sandy terrain searching for food, depositing pheromone as they move. When they find food they return to the nest, laying a stronger trail; other ants sense nearby pheromone and steer toward it, reinforcing it further while unused trails fade. This is stigmergy: simple local pheromone-following with positive feedback and decay causes a shared shortest path to emerge with no central planner.
