The web is a mass-spring mesh solved with Verlet integration: every junction stores its current and previous position, gravity and a gusting wind force are applied as an acceleration term, then a constraint pass repeatedly pulls each connected pair back toward its rest length. A strand that stretches past roughly 2.3× its rest length snaps and stops transmitting force.
- Position update:
x += (x − x_prev) · damping + a·dt²
- Constraint relaxation:
Δ = (d − rest) / d, applied to both ends in proportion to how pinned they are
- A fly that drifts within catch range of a strand sticks to its nearest node and kicks it, spiking local vibration; the spider moves toward the strongest vibration source to wrap the prey.
