How it works

The handler walks a circular path while a wandering distraction (scent/squirrel) pulls the dog outward. The leash is a hard length constraint: once the handler-to-dog distance exceeds the leash length, a spring-like pull-back force F = k·(d − L) yanks the dog back and its position is clamped so it can never visually pass the leash length.

No correction — the handler keeps walking through a taut leash, so pulling is reinforced: the dog's effective drive creeps upward over time.
Stop-and-Go — the handler freezes the instant the leash goes taut and resumes only once the dog slackens it again, rewarding loose-leash position with forward motion.
Loose-Leash + Treats — while the leash is loose, a treat occasionally appears at heel height, actively pulling the dog's attention back to the handler.
Walk quality — a rolling 0–100 score of how much time the leash spends loose vs. taut under the selected method.
