Mantle & arms — chromatophore skin Jet wake — expelled water Suckers

Octopus Locomotion Simulator (2D)

This 2D top-down simulator models a swimming octopus: eight arms move under distributed, semi-autonomous control (each carries its own drifting phase, echoing the arms' own nerve cords), while a jet of water expelled from the mantle's siphon drives the animal forward with real action-reaction thrust that spikes and decays every contraction cycle. A chromatophore skin model blends the body's color toward whichever habitat — reef, sand or open water — is selected, and a "match" readout scores how well the current camouflage color fits the background; switching camouflage off flushes the skin an alarmed red instead. Toggle jet power, arm style (independent drift, synchronized swimming stroke, or a seafloor crawl gait) and habitat to see how each system responds.
