Readability Landscape: Flesch-Kincaid Audience Retention

Every paragraph you write either reaches its reader or loses them somewhere in the middle. This simulator turns the Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level formulas — the same math behind the readability score in most word processors — into a literal crowd of 160 readers, each with its own literacy level, walking a text corridor toward a finish wall. Push sentence length, syllable count and jargon density up and watch the effective grade level climb past more and more of the audience, stalling and sinking the readers who fall short while the rest walk through clean; pull the audience-literacy slider to see the same text land completely differently with a general-public crowd versus a specialist one.
