Structural Balance in Signed Social Networks

This simulator renders a real social network — a set of people connected by friend or enemy relationships — and applies Heider's structural balance theory to it in 3D. Every possible triad of people is tested against the balance rule (the product of its three relationship signs), unbalanced triads are highlighted as social tension, and an auto-resolve dynamic repeatedly flips the weakest tie in an unstable triad, exactly the local repair process believed to drive real alliance and rivalry formation. As the network approaches full balance you can watch the Cartwright–Harary structure theorem play out live: the graph splits cleanly into two rival factions, with friendships only inside each camp and enmity only between them.
