Mobile navigation apps never show you the raw GPS signal — they show a filtered position that has been snapped onto the road network with a map-matching algorithm. This simulator drives a vehicle around a real street grid, deliberately corrupts its position with GPS-realistic noise, and runs a live per-fix scoring algorithm — perpendicular distance to nearby roads, heading alignment, and route continuity from the previous fix — to reconstruct where the car actually is. Turn up the noise slider to see the raw dots scatter across whole city blocks while the matched blue trace stays locked to the street; turn the heading weight down to see how a distance-only matcher starts jumping onto the wrong parallel street.
