This simulator models how the modality of study (visual, auditory or kinesthetic), the type of material being learned, and the number of repetitions combine to shape long-term memory retention, using the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve and Paivio's dual-coding theory as the governing model. A grid of 30 studied items decays in real time as days pass, each item's color and height tracking its individual retention probability. A dedicated toggle lets you compare the popular "meshing hypothesis" — that matching material to a learner's self-reported preferred style boosts recall — against the modelled real-world research finding that only item-type congruency (not stated preference) reliably predicts retention.
