Hawk-Dove Game: Evolutionary Game Theory & the ESS

This simulator renders a live population of animals contesting a shared resource under the classic Hawk-Dove game. Hawks always escalate to a fight; Doves display and retreat. Each generation, pairs of agents are drawn at random, their contest is resolved with the payoff matrix (V − C)/2, V, 0, V/2, and the population's Hawk fraction updates under the replicator equation toward the evolutionarily stable strategy p* = V/C. Tune the resource value, the cost of injury, mutation rate and simulation speed, and watch a 3D field of red Hawks and blue Doves settle — or fail to settle — into the mixed equilibrium that real behavioural ecology predicts for costly contests.
