Cognitive Load in E-Learning Design

This simulator demonstrates principles of e-learning design by putting Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning to work: toggle the modality, redundancy, split-attention and signaling choices a real course designer makes, and watch how they change the extraneous load competing for a learner's narrow working-memory capacity. Content chunks stream in at a chosen pace and complexity, fill a visualized four-slot working memory as intrinsic (blue), extraneous (red) and germane (green) load, and either get encoded into long-term memory or fall away unlearned the moment total load exceeds capacity — a concrete, interactive picture of why good multimedia design measurably improves retention.
