How it works

This is the real NEWS2 (National Early Warning Score 2) algorithm used across UK/NHS acute care to flag a deteriorating patient from six routinely-measured vital signs. Each parameter scores 0–3 from its own banded table; the six scores are summed:

The AI deterioration risk readout illustrates how a modern early-warning system layers a probabilistic model on top: a logistic mapping P = σ(0.62 · (NEWS2 − 5)) converts the discrete score into a continuous probability, mirroring how deployed clinical-deterioration models (trained on much larger feature sets — trends, labs, prior admissions) calibrate their alarm threshold around the same NEWS2 ≥ 7 "high risk" boundary. It is not a certified clinical device; it exists to demonstrate the mechanism.
