Ambient Intelligence: Context-Aware Device Handoff

Ambient computing is the idea that technology fades into the environment and responds to people rather than the other way around: no screens to unlock, no apps to open, just devices that quietly know when to step forward. This simulator makes that invisible decision visible. A virtual occupant wanders a room ringed by five smart devices — a lamp, a speaker, a thermostat, a display and a sensor hub — while each device continuously fuses three real signals (instantaneous proximity, a smoothed dwell-time average, and whether the occupant is walking toward it) into a single logistic confidence score. The highest-scoring device above an adjustable activation threshold takes over as "active," with hysteresis so the handoff stays stable instead of flickering under sensor noise. Tune the walking speed, sensor noise, activation threshold and dwell-time weighting to see exactly how real ambient-intelligence systems balance responsiveness against false triggers, and watch a soft heatmap build on the floor as a stand-in for the passive occupancy history these systems accumulate over time.
