A camera watches a hive's landing board from above. Every bee that crosses the green detection zone triggers one simulated model pass: a uniform random roll against the confidence threshold decides whether that crossing is flagged (green box, a true detection) or missed (red dashed box, a false negative).
- Bee traffic rate — how many bees per second attempt to cross the board, split roughly 50/50 between inbound (returning foragers) and outbound.
- Detection confidence — the model's confidence threshold; the roll must clear it to count as a detection.
- Low-light / IR mode — subtracts 30 percentage points from the effective confidence, simulating dusk motion blur and poor contrast.
- Activity index — detections in the last 0.5s window, extrapolated to a per-minute rate and plotted as a rolling bar chart, exactly like the aggregate counts an edge device logs.
