In a densely stacked indoor vertical farm, air is forced upward through the rack by fans, and every tier of plants pulls carbon dioxide out of that air stream to photosynthesize. This simulator models each tier as a well-mixed volume in a mass-balance chain: fresh, CO₂-enriched supply air enters the bottom tier, gets drawn down by photosynthetic uptake that saturates with both light and CO₂ concentration, and whatever remains flows on to the tier above. Adjust the ventilation rate, plant density, LED light intensity and CO₂ injection setpoint to see how easily the upper tiers can become carbon-starved even when the injected air is CO₂-rich at the bottom — and how much airflow it actually takes to keep the whole stack fed.
