Healthy crop canopy Salt crust Irrigation / drainage water

Soil Salinization from Irrigation (2D)

This is the 2D-native counterpart to the 3D root-zone salinization simulator. Rather than orbiting instanced crop cones and a crust mesh in a rendered scene, it draws a side-view field cross-section — canopy, root-zone colour band and a drainage layer below — next to a live EC-over-seasons chart, both driven by the same mixing-cell salt balance and Maas-Hoffman yield model as the 3D version. Every irrigation cycle leaves a little salt behind: crop roots pull up water but exclude most dissolved minerals, so evapotranspiration slowly concentrates whatever salt arrived in the irrigation water. Dial in the irrigation water's salinity, the leaching fraction you allow to drain below the roots, and the crop's evapotranspiration demand, then watch the soil's electrical conductivity climb (or stabilise) cycle by cycle, a salt crust spread across the surface once it crosses the USDA salinity thresholds, and crop yield potential fall along the published tolerance curve for bean, wheat or barley.
