2D Wheat Field Wind Waves: Honami Simulator

This is the 2D side-profile companion to the 3D wheat field simulator, focused purely on the honami effect: the visible wave that runs across a wheat field when wind gusts sweep through the canopy. Each stalk is simulated individually as a damped cantilever — a spring anchored at the ground with its own stiffness and damping — that bends under the local instantaneous wind force and springs back once the gust passes. Wind gusts themselves are modeled as a traveling pressure front that moves across the field faster than the wind blows locally, which is exactly what produces the rolling ripple pattern real wheat fields show from a distance. Drag the wind speed, gustiness and stalk stiffness sliders to see how a stronger gust front, a gustier wind profile or a softer crop each change the shape and speed of the traveling wave.
